The Miami Heat have waived forward/center Precious Achiuwa along with guards Ethan Thompson, Dain Dainja and Bez Mbeng, the team confirmed on October 17.
All four players were on non-guaranteed training-camp contracts, meaning Miami will not incur any salary cap charges after letting them go.
Achiuwa Becomes Free Agent
Achiuwa, 26, was the 20th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and has logged 320 regular-season appearances with the Heat, Raptors and Knicks. The 6’8” big man owns career averages of 7.6 points and 5.7 rebounds in 20.0 minutes per game. He rejoined Miami in late September after remaining unsigned for most of the offseason.
Exhibit 10 Trio Eligible for G League Bonuses
Thompson, Dainja and Mbeng were signed to Exhibit 10 deals. Each can earn a bonus of up to $85,300 if they spend at least 60 days with the Heat’s G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
Jahmir Young Poised for Final Two-Way Slot
With four cuts made, guard Jahmir Young is expected to claim Miami’s third and final two-way contract. The Heat can convert his current Exhibit 10 agreement into a two-way deal.
Young, 24, went undrafted out of Maryland in 2024 and began his pro career with the Grand Rapids Gold. He signed a two-way contract with Chicago in February, appearing in six NBA games for a total of 30 minutes. In 43 G League contests split between the Nuggets’ and Bulls’ affiliates, the 6’1” guard averaged 21.7 points, 7.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals, earning All-Rookie honors and finishing third in Rookie of the Year voting.
