Heat plan to bring Terry Rozier to camp amid contract uncertainty

The Miami Heat intend to have veteran guard Terry Rozier in training camp next week, even as questions persist about his long-term status with the organization, according to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald.

Team officials have debated Rozier’s contract situation throughout the offseason, but the current expectation is that he will open the 2024-25 season on the roster. A buyout is considered improbable because his reported connection to a federal gambling investigation would restrict his opportunities with other clubs.

Trading the 30-year-old remains an option, yet it would likely cost Miami draft picks and could tighten the salary cap beyond this season—scenarios the front office would prefer to avoid. If Rozier does leave, league sources view a straightforward waiver as the most feasible path. Only $24.9 million of his $26.6 million salary is guaranteed for 2024-25, which would create roughly $1.7 million in tax relief if he is waived. The waive-and-stretch provision is no longer available because last month’s deadline passed.

In the meantime, Rozier could see early minutes. Guard Tyler Herro is recovering from an ankle injury, opening a potential role for Rozier when play begins—assuming he is still with the team.
