The Miami Heat have added free-agent guard Ethan Thompson on an Exhibit 10 contract, according to Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel.

Thompson, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard who went undrafted out of Oregon State in 2021, has now signed five NBA contracts without yet appearing in a regular-season game. He finished the 2024-25 campaign on a two-way deal with the Orlando Magic.

The 25-year-old has been a steady presence in the NBA G League, logging between 43 and 49 games in each of the past four seasons with the Windy City Bulls, Mexico City Capitanes and Osceola Magic. Last season with Orlando’s affiliate, he averaged 17.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.1 steals in 33.4 minutes, shooting .415 from the field, .396 from three and .805 at the free-throw line while hitting a career-best 3.3 three-pointers per game.

An Exhibit 10 pact can be converted to a two-way contract before the season starts, and Miami still has one two-way slot open. However, the move appears geared toward the G League: the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Miami’s affiliate, acquired Thompson’s returning rights from Osceola on Wednesday. If the Heat waive him before opening night and he spends at least 60 days with Sioux Falls, he would collect an Exhibit 10 bonus of up to $85,300 in addition to his standard G League salary.

Miami now has 17 players under contract: 14 on fully or partially guaranteed standard deals, two on two-way agreements and Thompson on the Exhibit 10. The club also maintains a qualifying offer for restricted free agent Dru Smith.
