The Miami Heat expect guard Terry Rozier to be on the floor when training camp opens Tuesday, even though internal talks about his contract are still unresolved, the Miami Herald’s Anthony Chiang reported.
A buyout is considered improbable because Rozier is connected to an ongoing federal gambling probe, limiting his potential destinations outside South Florida. Miami has also been reluctant to pursue a trade, which would likely require surrendering future draft picks and could complicate salary-cap flexibility beyond this season.
If the Heat decide to move on from the 30-year-old, league sources told the Herald that the most realistic path would be to place him on waivers. Doing so would create roughly $1.7 million in additional room beneath the luxury-tax line because only $24.9 million of his $26.6 million 2025-26 salary is guaranteed. The waive-and-stretch option is unavailable after last month’s deadline.
In the meantime, Rozier could see early minutes in head coach Erik Spoelstra’s rotation while Tyler Herro recovers from an ankle injury.
