With training camp underway, several new and returning Miami Heat players are entering the 2025-26 season with added motivation.

Powell aims for first All-Star selection

Forward Norman Powell, acquired from the Clippers during the offseason, told Marc J. Spears of Andscape that being left off last season’s All-Star roster is driving him now. “I definitely have a chip from feeling like I could have made it,” Powell said. “Finding out that it is in L.A. would definitely be a little punch there to make it.” The 32-year-old is coming off a career-best campaign with Los Angeles.

Rozier looks to bounce back

Guard Terry Rozier, who slipped out of Miami’s rotation last year, is entering the final season of his contract. Speaking with Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the veteran said, “I’m glad I can still play basketball and do what I love and [I’m] ready for a turnaround this season.”

Smith’s resilience impresses Spoelstra

Dru Smith re-signed after missing most of last season with a torn Achilles. Head coach Erik Spoelstra praised the 27-year-old guard’s determination during camp, calling his grit and perseverance a “superpower” that keeps him pushing through setbacks.

Achiuwa reunites with Miami

Precious Achiuwa, Miami’s 2020 first-round pick, returned on a one-year free-agent deal. In a comment shared by Miami Heat Spain, the center said Miami’s culture made the choice simple: “It was a pretty easy decision because of how well this organization represents the type of player that I am. I also took into account the high competitive level of Spo; I want to forge myself around that.”

Scouts weigh in on young talent

Unnamed scouts told the Miami Herald that Achiuwa could be a better fit than other big men the front office considered, and they offered additional assessments of the Heat’s young roster.

The Heat open preseason play next week as Powell, Rozier, Achiuwa, and Smith each attempt to secure key roles.
