The Miami Heat have signed guard Trevor Keels to a two-way contract, the team announced Monday in a press release.
Keels takes the two-way slot that opened earlier in the day when Miami elevated forward Myron Gardner to its standard 15-man roster.
The 22-year-old spent one season at Duke and appeared in three NBA games with the New York Knicks during the 2022-23 campaign. Since then he has played exclusively in the NBA G League, making stops with the Westchester Knicks, the Iowa Wolves, and, most recently, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Miami’s affiliate.
Through 35 games for Sioux Falls this season, Keels is averaging 18.5 points on .453/.400/.731 shooting, along with 3.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.2 steals in 32.5 minutes per contest.
Because he still has multiple years of two-way eligibility, the Heat can carry Keels as a developmental player. Under current rules, he may be active for up to 16 regular-season games with Miami the rest of the year.
