Hawks Waive Two-Way Forward Jacob Toppin

The Atlanta Hawks have waived forward Jacob Toppin, removing him from his two-way contract, the NBA.com transaction log showed on December 15, 2025.

Toppin, 25, recently underwent season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, an injury suffered during a G League game with the College Park Skyhawks. The procedure was performed on December 8.

Because all two-way agreements remain non-guaranteed until the league-wide guarantee date of January 10 (with January 7 as the final day to waive a non-guaranteed deal), Atlanta faced no salary-cap penalty by releasing him. Two-way contracts do not count against the cap.

The move gives the Hawks one open two-way slot in addition to an available standard roster spot. League-wide, the Brooklyn Nets are the only other team currently listing a two-way vacancy.

Toppin has logged limited NBA action, appearing in 31 career games for a total of 131 minutes (4.2 per game). He played in five contests for Atlanta this season, averaging 3.4 minutes.

In the G League, the 6-foot-9 forward posted strong numbers. Through five games with College Park this year, he averaged 18.0 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.0 steal and 1.2 blocks across 31.0 minutes, shooting 48.0 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from three and 60.0 percent at the free-throw line.
