The Atlanta Hawks are not expected to make a serious push for Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis ahead of the NBA’s Feb. 5 trade deadline, league sources told Grant Afseth of Dallas Hoops Journal.

According to those sources, Atlanta’s front office has adopted a measured stance and is unwilling to add significant assets to its current offer. Davis, who is earning $54.1 million this season, is averaging 20.3 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks through 19 starts, recording 12 double-doubles. He becomes eligible for a contract extension in August.

The Hawks’ reluctance centers on two key pieces: rookie forward Zaccharie Risacher and a 2026 first-round pick swap that could deliver the New Orleans Pelicans’ selection. Team officials view both assets as essential to their rebuilding plans around forward Jalen Johnson.

Moving Trae Young earlier than expected improved Atlanta’s financial flexibility, but acquiring a high-salary veteran now would reduce the cap space the club hopes to wield after it knows its position in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Meanwhile, representatives for Davis are seeking clarity on an extension, but the Mavericks are not ready to offer that commitment, Afseth reported. Dallas would like to evaluate how Davis fits alongside rookie Cooper Flagg and guard Kyrie Irving, whose return from ACL surgery remains uncertain.

Afseth added that the Mavericks have also gauged the market on Daniel Gafford, Klay Thompson and D’Angelo Russell as the franchise reassesses its direction following the departure of former general manager Nico Harrison.
