The Atlanta Hawks have signed 24-year-old center Charles Bassey to a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 agreement, the team announced Wednesday.
Bassey entered the league as the 53rd pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, spending his rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers before being waived and landing with the San Antonio Spurs. During three seasons in San Antonio, injuries limited his availability; a non-displaced patella fracture ended his 2022-23 campaign, and an ACL tear in December 2023 sidelined him for the rest of that season.
He returned to appear in 36 games for the Spurs in 2024-25, averaging 4.4 points and 4.2 rebounds over 10.4 minutes per night.
Bassey impressed this past July with the Boston Celtics’ Summer League squad in Las Vegas, producing 15.3 points and 11.0 rebounds while shooting 70.4% from the field across three games. Although he reportedly drew interest from Serbian club Partizan Belgrade, he opted to pursue another NBA opportunity.
Atlanta currently carries 11 fully guaranteed contracts and one sizable partial guarantee for Vit Krejci, leaving multiple roster spots open. Bassey will compete with fellow non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed players such as Caleb Houstan, Mouhamed Gueye, and N’Faly Dante for one of those vacancies.
Because Bassey has four years of NBA service, the Exhibit 10 deal is not eligible to be converted into a two-way contract.
