The Adelaide 36ers have voided Montrezl Harrell’s contract after the veteran forward became ineligible to practice or play under a provisional ban stemming from a positive test for a banned substance recorded last spring with the Chinese Basketball Association’s Xinjiang Flying Tigers.
In a statement, the National Basketball League club thanked the 31-year-old for his short stint and said it could not comment further while the matter is unresolved. Harrell reacted on social media, writing, “Wait till you hear the real story on this lol how quick the switch goes!” He had previously stated that the substance involved was not performance-enhancing.
Harrell, the NBA’s 2019-20 Sixth Man of the Year, last appeared in the league with the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2022-23 season.
