Hamstring Strain Likely Sidelines Nets’ Michael Porter Jr. for Remainder of Season

Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. is expected to miss the rest of the 2023-24 campaign after being diagnosed with a left hamstring strain, the team said Tuesday.

The injury will be re-evaluated in two to three weeks, but with the NBA regular season concluding on April 12 and Brooklyn already out of postseason contention, the Nets do not anticipate rushing the 25-year-old back to the court.

Porter has been one of the club’s few bright spots in his debut season with Brooklyn. Across 52 appearances, the 6-foot-10 scorer averaged 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting efficiently from the field.

The setback comes after Porter had been recovering from a right ankle sprain. The hamstring issue surfaced as he was working toward a return from that earlier injury.

Without their leading scorer, the Nets are expected to give expanded roles to younger forwards Ziaire Williams and Josh Minott over the final weeks.

Porter’s contract carries a $40.8 million salary for 2024-25, the final year of his current deal. He will be eligible to negotiate an extension this offseason.
