Grizzlies Listening to Ja Morant Trade Proposals; Mavericks Detail Anthony Davis Hand Injury; Nets Appealed to Trae Young

The Memphis Grizzlies have begun taking calls on two-time All-Star Ja Morant and could move him before the Feb. 5 trade deadline, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Grizzlies

Several reports describe a tense backdrop to the talks. Michael C. Wright of ESPN noted that Morant remains upset about the one-game team suspension he served earlier this season. In its wake, he told some opposing players and former coaches that he no longer wished to play for Memphis, Wright reported.

Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal added that Morant has not formally asked for a trade, but that point may be moot if the front office is already evaluating offers. Morant was in uniform for Friday night’s game against Oklahoma City.

Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks announced Friday that forward Anthony Davis sustained ligament damage in his left hand, confirmed by an MRI. The team said Davis is gathering additional medical opinions and will issue further updates when available.

ESPN’s Charania and Tim MacMahon reported that Davis could miss a minimum of six weeks if doctors decide surgery is unnecessary. A procedure would likely sideline him for several months.

Nets

Before Trae Young was traded to Washington, the Brooklyn Nets were one of the destinations that interested the guard, Brian Lewis of The New York Post reported. The Nets never made a formal push, yet team officials viewed Young’s interest as encouraging in the wake of recent high-profile departures that included Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden.

The situations involving Morant’s future, Davis’s recovery timetable and Brooklyn’s appeal to marquee talent remain fluid as the season progresses.
