Grizzlies Receive Little Trade Interest for Ja Morant

Interest in Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant is described as lukewarm across the NBA, according to reporting from ESPN’s Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst.
League sources told ESPN that potential suitors have been hesitant, pointing to Morant’s recent injury history and inconsistent on-court production. The Miami Heat, frequently mentioned in speculation, are reportedly not pursuing the two-time All-Star. Miami is said to be preserving payroll flexibility for the summer of 2027, when several marquee players could become available, and Morant’s fully guaranteed $44.9 million salary for the 2027-28 season would complicate that strategy.
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reinforced the notion that the Heat have not submitted an offer. Jackson wrote that Miami would only engage if Memphis were effectively giving Morant away, joking that the Grizzlies might have to attach a first-round draft pick to spark genuine interest.
Elsewhere, team executives contacted by ESPN painted a similarly subdued picture. The Milwaukee Bucks surfaced as a long-shot possibility, but conversations around that scenario have been described as merely exploratory.
With no strong market materializing, Memphis may find limited options should the club decide to explore a trade involving its franchise guard.
