Grizzlies sideline Ja Morant for at least three weeks with left elbow sprain

The Memphis Grizzlies will be without Ja Morant for a minimum of three weeks after the guard suffered a left elbow UCL sprain during Wednesday’s game against Atlanta, the team announced. Morant will be re-evaluated following that period, keeping him out past the NBA’s Feb. 5 trade deadline.

Memphis sits outside the Western Conference playoff spots, and Morant’s latest setback arrives as the front office weighs its options ahead of trade season. Ongoing speculation about Morant’s long-term future has already been complicated by his sizable contract and injury history, and the elbow issue adds another layer of uncertainty.

The injury could also prompt a broader roster reset. League executives continue to monitor forward Jaren Jackson Jr. and other potential trade pieces should the Grizzlies decide to shift toward selling.

Morant had recently begun to regain form after missing time with a calf injury earlier in the season. He has appeared in just 20 games, averaging 19.5 points and 8.1 assists.
