The Memphis Grizzlies are fielding trade inquiries for guard Ja Morant and could move the two-time All-Star before the NBA’s Feb. 5 trade deadline, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Charania reported that several clubs have already reached out, and Memphis is debating whether its long-term future is better served by keeping Morant or centering the roster around forward Jaren Jackson Jr. and a growing group of young players.

If a deal materializes, the Grizzlies are expected to seek draft assets and young talent rather than veteran help, the report said.

Morant, 26, was the league’s Most Improved Player in 2022 but has struggled to stay on the floor since. A shoulder injury sidelined him for most of last season, and multiple league suspensions stemming from off-court incidents have further complicated his availability.

League executives have questioned the current market for max-salary, offense-oriented point guards as teams place greater emphasis on size and defensive versatility. Atlanta’s recent trade of Trae Young for a comparatively modest return is viewed as a potential benchmark for any Morant discussion.

Memphis is not believed to be considering a full rebuild; Jackson is reportedly off limits, and team officials remain confident in the core already in place.
