The Memphis Grizzlies have re-signed guard Rayan Rupert to a two-way contract, the team confirmed Wednesday afternoon in a press release. The agreement was announced at 1:59 p.m. CT, less than 24 hours after Rupert’s original 10-day deal with the club expired.
ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported the new arrangement at 1:37 p.m. CT. Rupert, 21, joined Memphis on Feb. — (dates not specified in original but “last month” for waive) after being waived by the Portland Trail Blazers, who drafted him 43rd overall in 2023.
Across two-and-a-half seasons in Portland, the French guard averaged 3.2 points and 1.8 rebounds in 12.0 minutes over 139 games. In his initial 10-day stint with the Grizzlies, Rupert provided 10.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 26.8 minutes per contest while shooting 45.2% from the field, 35.3% from three and 80.0% at the free-throw line.
The Grizzlies created space for Rupert by converting Olivier-Maxence Prosper from a two-way contract to a standard NBA deal, effectively swapping the players’ roster statuses. With the move, Rupert is eligible to appear in up to 11 additional NBA games this season, the prorated remainder of the 50-game cap for two-way players.
