The Memphis Grizzlies announced Friday that forward Brandon Clarke will undergo arthroscopic surgery to treat synovitis in his right knee, an issue that surfaced during recent workouts. The team will set a firm recovery schedule after the procedure, but ESPN’s Shams Charania reported he will be re-evaluated in a minimum of six weeks.

Clarke’s 2024/25 campaign ended in March because of a sprained PCL in the same knee. According to the team, the ligament has healed completely; the current operation targets inflammation of the joint’s synovial membrane. The 28-year-old has battled a series of injuries in recent seasons, including a torn Achilles tendon that sidelined him for most of 2023/24.

The club also updated the status of two other frontcourt players recovering from offseason surgeries:

  • Zach Edey — The rookie center, who had left ankle surgery in June, has been cleared to ramp up basketball activities. Memphis expects him to make his NBA debut in six to nine weeks, placing his return between early and late November.
  • Jaren Jackson Jr. — The All-Star big man underwent surgery in July to repair turf toe. He will begin on-court work and is projected to be back in four to six weeks, meaning he could miss the opening stretch of the 2025/26 season.

First-round pick Cedric Coward, sidelined last year at Washington State by a left shoulder injury, has been cleared for full participation when training camp opens. With Clarke, Edey and Jackson likely out to start the year, Memphis may lean on Santi Aldama and Jock Landale to bolster its early-season rotation up front.
