The Memphis Grizzlies have reached a two-year agreement with veteran forward Taj Gibson, 40, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The second season of the contract is expected to be non-guaranteed.
The signing was finalized after Memphis completed a buyout with forward Kyle Anderson, who will join the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Gibson appeared in 37 games for the Charlotte Hornets last season, averaging 2.9 points and 3.2 rebounds in limited minutes. He has not played during the current campaign.
If he steps on the court for Memphis, Gibson will begin his 17th NBA season and become the 35th player in league history to play at age 40.
The Grizzlies are rebuilding after recent roster moves that sent Desmond Bane out of town and traded Jaren Jackson Jr. earlier this month. Multiple injuries have further depleted the frontcourt, increasing the need for an experienced presence in the locker room.
