The Charlotte Hornets expect forward Grant Williams to play his first game of the season on Saturday, listing the 27-year-old as probable for their road matchup with the Utah Jazz.
Williams has been sidelined since tearing the ACL in his right knee on November 23, 2024. The 6-7 veteran underwent surgery to repair the ACL and additional knee ligaments a few weeks after the injury and has spent more than a year in rehabilitation. Head coach Charles Lee said earlier this week that Williams had progressed to full five-on-five work and was in the final stage of his recovery.
A first-round pick in 2019 (No. 22 overall), Williams averaged 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals on .439/.365/.838 shooting in 16 appearances last season, including seven starts (29.9 minutes). The Charlotte native is under contract for a combined $27.9 million through the 2026-27 campaign, after which he can become a free agent in the summer of 2027.
Rookie Center Ryan Kalkbrenner Also Probable
Charlotte also listed Ryan Kalkbrenner as probable for Saturday’s game. The 7-1 rookie missed the past 10 contests with a left elbow sprain. Before the setback, the No. 34 pick in last year’s draft averaged 8.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.8 blocks while shooting 78.7 percent from the field. He started 25 of his 26 appearances and averaged 25.6 minutes per game.
