Milwaukee Bucks
Giannis Antetokounmpo is scheduled to link up with the Milwaukee Bucks when training camp relocates from Milwaukee to Miami, head coach Doc Rivers said Thursday. The two-time MVP remained in Greece this week while recovering from COVID-19 but is expected to fly to Florida either Thursday night or Friday morning.
The Bucks will be in Miami for several days before opening preseason play against the Heat on Monday.
Washington Wizards
The Wizards adjusted their training-camp roster by signing forward Leaky Black to an Exhibit 10 contract and waiving Jonathan Pierre.
Black, 6-foot-6, went undrafted out of North Carolina in 2023 and spent last season on a two-way deal with the Charlotte Hornets. He appeared in 44 games for Washington’s G League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go, averaging 7.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals.
He is expected to be waived before the regular season and return to Capital City as a returning-rights player, making him eligible for an Exhibit 10 bonus of up to $85,300. Pierre is also likely to join the Go-Go on an affiliate contract with a similar bonus.
Miami Heat
Nikola Jović expressed enthusiasm Thursday about his pending four-year, $62.4 million rookie-scale extension with the Miami Heat, even though the deal has not yet been finalized.
“I’m blessed,” the 22-year-old forward told reporters after practice. “I’m happy that this ownership and organization see the talent and the work I put in. I’ll make sure to give my everything to make this contract worth a lot more.”
Jović, the 27th overall pick in the 2022 draft, said summer visits from head coach Erik Spoelstra and executive Adam Simon reinforced his sense of belonging: “I felt really like a part of the family.”
