MIAMI — Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo offered high praise for “Heat culture” on Thursday night after Milwaukee fell 112-105 at Kaseya Center, a result that stretched Miami’s winning streak to seven games.

“They’re going to play tough, and they’re not going to stop playing. That’s the Miami Heat culture,” Antetokounmpo told reporters post-game. “For me, it’s been a tough season. I’m grateful to compete, but it’s in my nature to win games.”

The Heat, one of several clubs that contacted Milwaukee about a possible Antetokounmpo trade before February’s deadline, have climbed into a tie for fifth place in the Eastern Conference since the All-Star break. The Bucks, meanwhile, have dropped three straight and sit six games clear of the play-in zone with 17 contests remaining.

Antetokounmpo has long stated his loyalty to Milwaukee, yet he routinely adds that he wants to contend for championships. The Bucks have exited in the first round three years running and own just one series win since capturing the 2021 title.

Without requesting a move, the two-time MVP watched from afar as the Bucks fielded offers this winter. His comments Thursday suggested he has at least contemplated a future in South Florida.

“Coach Erik Spoelstra’s teams keep playing,” Antetokounmpo said. “Even when they don’t hit shots, they get second chances, crash the boards, find the open man, try to get to the line, and move the ball. They have guards who can penetrate, drive and kick, and they play hard.”

Antetokounmpo and Heat center Bam Adebayo share the same agency and have built a strong relationship through regular on-court battles. Earlier this week, Antetokounmpo defended Adebayo’s 83-point performance against criticism over late-game free throws, calling it “incredible.”

“Whenever I play against Bam, it’s extra motivation,” he added. “I think he’s one of the best two-way players and one of the best 4-5 men in the league.”
