Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Talk Likely to Stretch Beyond Thursday’s Deadline

Front-office executives around the NBA do not expect a swift resolution to the Milwaukee Bucks’ decision on Giannis Antetokounmpo, league sources told ESPN’s Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst.

According to the report, Milwaukee is prepared to let discussions continue past Thursday’s trade deadline and potentially into the summer. General manager Jon Horst is said to be determined to gauge every possible scenario before considering a move involving the two-time MVP.

Several league insiders believe the offseason could bring stronger proposals. The New York Knicks may gain access to additional first-round picks, while the Miami Heat could increase their available draft selections from two to four once the current league year ends.

An Eastern Conference scout noted that the Bucks have “little incentive to rush,” pointing out that waiting allows the club to see how the draft lottery unfolds and what assets become available after the season.

Antetokounmpo’s health also factors into the timing. The forward is currently sidelined by a calf strain, complicating any near-term decision. Should Milwaukee choose a measured reset, keeping Antetokounmpo on the roster while managing his minutes could bolster the team’s positioning for the 2026 draft, when it controls favorable picks.

The Bucks have not publicly committed to any timeline, but multiple league sources told ESPN that serious conversations may not intensify until the offseason, extending the league-wide watch on Antetokounmpo well beyond this week.
