Utah Jazz forward Georges Niang will miss the opening of training camp after developing a fourth metatarsal stress reaction in his left foot during offseason workouts, the team announced Monday.
The 32-year-old will be reevaluated in two weeks, leaving his exact return date dependent on how the injury responds to treatment.
Niang’s journey has been busy since February. The Cleveland Cavaliers sent him and Caris LeVert to the Atlanta Hawks at the trade deadline in a deal that brought DeAndre Hunter to Cleveland. Atlanta then included Niang in this summer’s Kristaps Porziņģis trade with the Boston Celtics, before he ultimately landed back in Utah, where he played from 2017 to 2021.
Last season, the 6-foot-7 forward appeared in 79 games, averaging 9.9 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 40.6 percent from three-point range. The Jazz value him as a veteran leader for a young roster, but his availability will hinge on the progress of his foot over the coming weeks.
