Utah Jazz forward Georges Niang will undergo another medical evaluation in two to three weeks as he continues rehab on a stress reaction in the fourth metatarsal of his left foot, the team said Tuesday.
The injury was first disclosed on September 27 after Niang was hurt during offseason conditioning. At that time, the club projected a two-week checkup. While today’s update signals progress, Utah did not outline a specific timetable for the 32-year-old’s return to game action.
Niang rejoined the Jazz this summer in a salary-dump trade with Boston that sent him and two future second-round picks to Utah in exchange for rookie guard RJ Luis Jr. The veteran forward split last season between Atlanta and Cleveland, averaging 9.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.
A 39.9 percent career three-point shooter, Niang played four seasons for Utah from 2017-21 and logged 23 playoff appearances, averaging 5.0 points in 13.0 minutes. The rebuilding Jazz targeted his experience to help guide a roster heavy on young talent.
