Main Street Sports Group is in talks with a second potential buyer for its regional sports network (RSN) assets after its tentative agreement with DAZN showed signs of instability, Sports Business Journal’s Tom Friend reported.
According to the article, streaming platform Fubo has surfaced as a fallback option, though no transaction has been finalized.
The uncertainty intensified when Main Street missed January rights-fee payments to some or all of the 13 NBA clubs whose games air on FanDuel Sports Network. That lapse has drawn close scrutiny from league and team executives.
Friend wrote that Main Street and DAZN previously asked NBA and NHL teams to extend their current RSN deals through the 2028-29 season while adding broader digital rights. Both leagues rejected the proposal.
Afterward, Main Street sought different terms: roughly a 20 percent cut to rights fees for the rest of this season and permission to defer those already reduced payments. The request would leave teams with smaller payments now and a longer wait to collect.
The NBA and NHL have been looking to stabilize local broadcasting after several years of RSN turbulence. Late payments, renegotiation attempts and uncertain ownership continue to complicate that effort.
