Kyle Neptune, who guided Fordham and Villanova in recent seasons, has accepted an assistant coaching position on head coach Charles Lee’s staff with the Charlotte Hornets, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The agreement gives Charlotte a replacement for Chris Jent, who departed earlier this month to become Mike Brown’s lead assistant with the New York Knicks.

Neptune, 40, spent the past three seasons in charge at Villanova after succeeding longtime coach Jay Wright in 2022. The Wildcats posted a 54-47 record under his direction and missed the NCAA tournament each year, leading to his dismissal in March.

Before taking over the Villanova program, Neptune compiled a 16-16 mark in his lone season as Fordham’s head coach in 2021-22. His résumé also includes eight seasons as a Villanova assistant, a stint as an administrative intern and video coordinator for the Wildcats from 2008-10, and three years as an assistant at Niagara.

During his assistant tenure at Villanova, the Wildcats captured two NCAA championships and averaged 29 victories per season. In 2020, both ESPN and The Athletic named Neptune to their “40 Under 40” lists highlighting rising coaching talent.
