NEW YORK — Former NBA guard Sebastian Telfair is urging former President Donald Trump to issue him a pardon before he begins a six-month federal prison sentence linked to an NBA health-care fraud case.

Speaking outside a New York courthouse to TMZ, the 38-year-old Brooklyn native called his impending incarceration “super unfair” and said the punishment relates to a paperwork violation while on supervised release. “Trump, go check in on my story and you’re definitely going to want to pardon me,” Telfair said. “I did too good to be sending anybody to jail.”

Telfair was among more than a dozen former NBA players charged in 2021 with attempting to bilk the league’s health-care plan out of nearly $4 million. Prosecutors alleged he breached conditions of his release, leading a judge to impose the six-month term earlier this summer.

The ex-guard—drafted 13th overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2004 after starring at Abraham Lincoln High School in Coney Island—played 10 NBA seasons with Minnesota, Portland, Phoenix, Boston, the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City, Toronto and Cleveland. He told TMZ he plans to write a book and document his experience while preparing to report to prison.

“Donald Trump, I need you to come holler—give your boy a pardon so I can stay home with my baby,” Telfair added.
