Dallas — Shawn Bradley, the 7-foot-6 former NBA center paralyzed in a 2021 bicycle accident, attended the BIG3 Week 10 games on Sunday, marking one of his few public outings since the crash.
Bradley, 51, arrived at American Airlines Arena in a Quantum Rehab motorized wheelchair alongside his wife, Carrie. The couple greeted fans and posed for photos with Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal before tip-off.
Selected No. 2 overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1993 NBA Draft, Bradley spent 12 seasons with the 76ers, New Jersey Nets and Dallas Mavericks. He was struck from behind by a vehicle while riding his bike in St. George, Utah, on Jan. 20, 2021, leaving him paralyzed from the chest down. Authorities issued no citations in the incident.
In an August 2023 interview with KSL.com, Bradley said he has regained some sensation but remains largely immobile. “I can move my hand and that’s great—I shouldn’t be able to do that—but there is no strength in it,” he said, noting additional feeling in his chest and back. Doctors have told him the injury could shorten his life expectancy by a decade or more. At the time, he was pursuing a specially equipped vehicle to regain some independence.
Sunday’s appearance offered fans a brief glimpse of the former Mavericks big man, who last played in the NBA in 2005.
