Former Los Angeles Clippers guard Sindarius Thornwell was taken into custody Tuesday in Richland County, South Carolina, on charges of second-degree domestic violence and unlawful conduct toward a child, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
The 30-year-old was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and later released on a $25,000 personal recognizance bond, attorney Seth Rose told The State. Rose issued a statement maintaining Thornwell’s innocence and urging the public to await the court process before drawing conclusions.
Thornwell entered the NBA as the 48th overall pick in the 2017 draft, selected by the Milwaukee Bucks before beginning his career with the Clippers. Over four seasons he also spent time with the New Orleans Pelicans and Orlando Magic, last appearing in the league during the 2020-21 campaign. He averaged 2.5 points across 160 regular-season games.
After his NBA stint, the former South Carolina star competed professionally overseas in Germany, Turkey, Poland, and most recently China, suiting up earlier this year for the Xinjiang Flying Tigers. Thornwell briefly signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2019 but was waived prior to the regular season.
The arrest represents a stark contrast for the guard who led South Carolina to its first Final Four in 2017.
