Former Cleveland Cavaliers wing Cedi Osman, now with the San Antonio Spurs, will headline Turkey’s roster when the national team begins its EuroBasket 2025 qualifying campaign against host Latvia on August 27 in Riga.
“This will be one of the best EuroBasket tournaments ever. Every team has come with its best roster,” Osman told EuroHoops during training camp. “It’s going to be a tough game against Latvia, but we had a very good preparation period and we are ready.”
Turkey was drawn into what many observers consider the event’s strongest pool. Group A features Turkey, Serbia, Czechia, Estonia and Portugal. Osman acknowledged the degree of difficulty but said the objective remains unchanged.
“Serbia has a great team, a great roster, and they are one of the main candidates,” he said. “This is definitely the toughest group, but in the end, we are here to win every game.”
Head coach Ergin Ataman praised the team’s chemistry, noting that blending NBA and EuroLeague talent has not been an issue. “We had a month to prepare,” Ataman said. “When you have players like I have now, everything becomes easier.”
Turkey will open against Latvia before continuing group play against Serbia, Czechia, Estonia and Portugal.
