Free-agent guard Malik Beasley remains in limbo as conflicting reports persist about his status in a federal sports-betting investigation, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

Beasley’s attorneys told ESPN the 28-year-old is no longer a target, but a subsequent report indicated he is still under scrutiny and could face additional legal issues. The NBA is also expected to look into the matter. The Cavaliers, Knicks, Timberwolves and Pistons have checked in with Beasley’s representatives, hoping he will be available for the 2025-26 season, but none of the clubs has moved toward a contract offer. Should he be cleared, Beasley intends to seek more than the veteran minimum; among the four teams, only Detroit currently has the freedom to propose such a deal.

Warriors Waiting on Kuminga

Uncertainty surrounding Jonathan Kuminga’s contract has delayed other Golden State moves. Fischer reports the Warriors plan to sign Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton, Gary Payton II and No. 56 pick Will Richard once Kuminga’s situation is settled. The club has also expressed interest in guard Malcolm Brogdon. Brogdon is drawing monitoring from the Knicks and Timberwolves as well.

Fischer did not mention No. 52 pick Alex Toohey, suggesting the Australian forward could be stashed overseas for the coming season.

Timberwolves Working on Hyland Deal

Minnesota is “actively” trying to finalize financial terms on a new contract for guard Bones Hyland. Hyland is no longer eligible for a two-way agreement, making a non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed NBA deal the likely outcome.

Heat Shopping Rozier

The Heat continue to look for a trade partner for veteran guard Terry Rozier, who is also linked to the federal gambling probe. Interest has been minimal, and Miami is open to a buyout, though no movement is imminent.

Nets Could Re-Route Highsmith

The Nets are expected to put newly acquired forward Haywood Highsmith back on the trade market once he becomes eligible on December 15. Brooklyn, focused on gathering future assets, received Highsmith from Miami for a second-round pick. The 28-year-old is rehabbing from knee surgery and is projected to miss the start of the season. If he returns to form, his $5.6 million 2026-27 salary would fit within the taxpayer mid-level exception, potentially increasing his value to contenders.
