League front offices are closely watching how the Golden State Warriors deploy forward Jonathan Kuminga in the weeks leading up to his trade-eligibility date of Jan. 15.

At the G League Winter Showcase in Orlando over the weekend, several team executives asked about Kuminga’s expected minutes, according to The Stein Line reporter Jake Fischer. The 21-year-old has slipped out of Golden State’s regular rotation recently, prompting speculation about the club’s plans as the trade market begins to heat up.

Fischer added that, from a roster-building perspective, the Warriors may lean toward protecting Kuminga’s health rather than boosting his playing time if he becomes a serious trade chip. Executives he consulted indicated their valuation of the former first-round pick is already set and will not fluctuate based on his on-court activity before the mid-January deadline.

Unlikely Path to Sacramento

One rumored landing spot appears remote. ClutchPoints insider Brett Siegel reported that a straight deal with the Sacramento Kings is improbable unless a third team joins the negotiations. Golden State is said to be lukewarm on Sacramento’s current asset pool, which includes guard Malik Monk. Monk, viewed as available, has attracted limited leaguewide interest because his contract guarantees nearly $42 million over the two seasons after this year.

With less than a month before Kuminga becomes eligible to be moved, how Golden State balances his workload and trade value remains a key storyline for rival talent evaluators.
