August 25, 2025 — Franz Wagner believes a EuroBasket championship would solidify Germany’s standing in international basketball after the nation’s undefeated run to the 2023 FIBA World Cup crown.
“It would be a massive achievement,” the Orlando Magic forward told reporters. “Winning anything is super difficult. Winning for your country is super special. We felt that two years ago, and we’re doing everything we can to have that feeling again and bring home a gold medal.”
Germany, placed in Group B with Great Britain, Lithuania, Sweden, Montenegro and host Finland, is widely expected to advance. The knockout rounds will be held September 6-14 in Riga, Latvia. Wagner noted the intensity of the single-elimination format, calling every national-team contest “super physical” because rosters have limited time together.
