Simone Fontecchio set a new Italian single-game scoring mark on Monday, exploding for 39 points in a 93-75 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Miami Heat forward, who shot just 9.1% in Italy’s EuroBasket opener, connected on 65.0% of his attempts and buried 7-of-10 from deep while adding eight rebounds and three assists in 37 minutes. His outburst eclipsed Andrea Bargnani’s previous national record of 36 points set in 2011.

Fontecchio’s bounce-back performance comes less than two months after he joined Miami in the trade that sent franchise three-point leader Duncan Robinson to Detroit.

Group D: Israel Tops France

Deni Avdija powered Israel past France, 80-69, with 23 points, eight rebounds and five steals. France was without projected lottery pick Alex Sarr, who sat out to rest a minor right calf issue, the French federation announced.

Group B: Vucevic Dominates Sweden

Nikola Vucevic delivered 23 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks in Montenegro’s 82-70 triumph over Sweden. The Chicago Bulls center called it “a great team effort” after what local reporters labeled one of his strongest performances for the national squad.

Group A: Sengun Makes History

Turkey moved to 4-0 with a 95-78 win over Estonia behind Alperen Sengun’s 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists. According to Eurohoops, the Rockets big man is the first player in three decades to record at least 20 points, five rebounds and five assists in three consecutive EuroBasket games.
