Philadelphia center Joel Embiid will not play in the 76ers’ matchup with the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday, the team confirmed Saturday.

Head coach Nick Nurse had said earlier in the week that there was “a chance” the reigning MVP could return, but medical staff ultimately kept him sidelined. Nurse declined to detail specific benchmarks for clearance, noting only that Embiid must first manage lingering pain and complete on-court work.

Embiid has appeared in six games this season, averaging a career-low 19.7 points along with 5.5 rebounds. He has missed the past nine contests and is now set to sit out a tenth.

Philadelphia’s injury report also lists Kelly Oubre Jr. (left knee sprain) and Trendon Watford (left abductor sprain) as out. Rookie VJ Edgecombe, sidelined for three games with calf tightness, has been upgraded to questionable, while center Andre Drummond is questionable with a right knee contusion.

The 76ers and Hawks are scheduled to tip off Sunday at Wells Fargo Center.
