Former NBA center Elden Campbell, a key member of the Detroit Pistons’ 2004 title team, has died at the age of 57, according to a report from The Los Angeles Times. No cause of death has been disclosed.

The 6-11 Campbell played four seasons at Clemson University (1986-1990) before the Los Angeles Lakers selected him with the 27th pick in the 1990 NBA Draft. He spent more than eight years in Los Angeles before being traded to the Charlotte Hornets midway through the 1998-99 season.

The veteran big man remained in the league until 2005, suiting up for Charlotte, New Orleans, Seattle, New Jersey and Detroit. During the Pistons’ 2003-04 championship run, he appeared in 14 postseason games.

Over 15 NBA seasons, Campbell played in 1,044 regular-season contests, starting 671. He averaged 10.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 24.7 minutes per game while shooting 46.0% from the field and 69.9% at the foul line. He added 106 playoff appearances, including 53 starts. His 1,602 career blocks place him 37th on the league’s all-time list.

Former teammate Byron Scott recalled Campbell’s unflappable style on the court and easygoing nature off it, noting the nickname “Easy E” that teammates bestowed upon him.

Campbell is remembered for his calm presence, defensive instincts and the pivotal role he played on multiple NBA rosters over a decade and a half.
