Partially Guaranteed Deals Mark Late-Summer NBA Free-Agent Market

August 23, 2025 — NBA teams continue to fill out training-camp rosters with modest contracts, leaving several well-known names still unsigned while a handful of role players quietly secure new homes.
The most recent fully guaranteed agreement involved guard Dru Smith, whose contract includes a locked-in 2025/26 salary. Most other August signings, however, provide little or no security beyond camp.
• Forward Javonte Green accepted a veteran-minimum deal with the Detroit Pistons that carries a $925,000 partial guarantee.
• Swingman Kessler Edwards, a useful reserve for Dallas late last season, landed a non-guaranteed training-camp contract with the Denver Nuggets.
• Wing Amir Coffey, who logged solid rotation minutes for the Los Angeles Clippers in 2024/25, agreed to a similar non-guaranteed pact with the Milwaukee Bucks.
• Forward Caleb Houstan reached a non-guaranteed agreement with the Atlanta Hawks.
Green, Edwards, Coffey and Houstan exemplify free agents who attracted limited attention during the summer but ultimately obtained team-friendly contracts.
Meanwhile, several high-profile restricted free agents — Josh Giddey, Jonathan Kuminga, Quentin Grimes and Cam Thomas — remain on the market. Veteran names such as Al Horford, Russell Westbrook, Ben Simmons and Malcolm Brogdon are also still searching for deals. Guard Malik Beasley, recently cleared in a federal gambling investigation, is expected to join that group.
With camps set to open in the fall, a number of under-the-radar contributors are still available and could compete for roster spots and rotation minutes.
