Washington guard Trae Young was tossed from Monday’s game against Houston before logging his first official minute with the Wizards. The veteran, who is set to make his team debut on Thursday, left the bench to protest a non-call after Rockets forward Tari Eason repeatedly shoved rookie wing Jamir Watkins. Officials initially assessed a technical, then upgraded the infraction to an ejection.

Head coach Brian Keefe backed the 25-year-old’s response. “I think he was just sticking up for his teammates, which I thought was great,” Keefe told reporters. “I loved how our teammates stuck with him.”

Young later posted on X, “Don’t expect me to get ejected too many more times, D.C. But I’m definitely bringing that energy and competitiveness when I’m back for my brothers!” Veteran insider Marc Stein reported that no additional league discipline is expected.

Ellis Drawing Raves in Cleveland

Guard Keon Ellis, acquired at the trade deadline that also delivered James Harden and Dennis Schröder to Cleveland, continues to make his mark on defense. The 6’3” stopper recorded five blocks and three steals in Sunday’s win in Brooklyn. “I’ve never quite seen a player like him defensively,” head coach Kenny Atkinson said. Ellis, eligible for an extension and headed for unrestricted free agency in 2026, is lauded for his length and relentless activity.
