Tyler Herro, Dyson Daniels Extension Talks Remain Stalled as Heat Keep 2027 Flexibility

MIAMI — Guard Tyler Herro has expressed a desire to remain with the Miami Heat, but substantive negotiations on a contract extension have yet to occur, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported. A deal before the start of the regular season is viewed as unlikely.
Herro, 24, still has two guaranteed seasons left on his current contract. Because of NBA rules, he is ineligible to sign an extension once the season begins, pushing the next negotiation window to the summer of 2026.
Windhorst added that Clippers wing Norman Powell and Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins are also eligible for extensions, though talks for both players appear dormant.
According to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, Miami is one of several franchises positioning itself for the 2027 offseason, when a free-agency class headlined by Nikola Jokić, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Donovan Mitchell could hit the market. Preserving cap space for that summer is the organization’s current priority.
Hawks Working Against Deadline on Dyson Daniels
The Atlanta Hawks continue to discuss a rookie-scale extension with guard Dyson Daniels ahead of Monday’s league deadline, ESPN’s Tim Bontemps reported.
Agent Daniel Moldovan is using Jalen Suggs’ five-year, $150 million contract as a benchmark, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks. Last fall, Atlanta forward Jalen Johnson secured the same structure.
Daniels, 21, captured the NBA’s Most Improved Player award last season and is projected as a long-term partner alongside Trae Young and Johnson. Whether an agreement is reached before the cutoff remains uncertain.
Raptors Add Julian Reese on Exhibit 10 Deal
The Toronto Raptors have signed undrafted forward Julian Reese to an Exhibit 10 contract, the team announced.
Reese, a 6-foot-9 product of Maryland, averaged 13.3 points and 9.0 rebounds in his final collegiate season, finishing second in school history in total rebounds behind Len Elmore. His sister, Angel Reese, plays for the WNBA’s Chicago Sky.
Sportsnet’s Michael Grange reported that Toronto intends to waive Reese and have him join its G League affiliate, Raptors 905. If he spends at least 60 days with the club, he can earn a bonus of up to $85,300.
The Raptors created roster space Thursday by waiving five players, leaving 17 contracts on the books entering the final week of training camp.
