San Francisco, CA — Former Golden State forward Draymond Green believes the Oklahoma City Thunder have a realistic shot at surpassing the Warriors’ single-season record of 73 victories.
Speaking with Sam Amick of The Athletic on Tuesday, Green said the Thunder’s 21-1 start gives them a legitimate chance to reach 74 wins. “I do think they’re capable,” he told Amick, adding that extensive good fortune and sustained health remain essential. “You need a lot of breaks to go your way, but they’re on the right track.”
Green, a key figure on the 2015-16 Warriors team that set the current mark, acknowledged the toll such a pursuit can take. “I think 73 wins took some years off my life,” he said. “But like I said, they’re capable of a lot.”
Thunder Keep Rolling
Oklahoma City underlined its momentum Tuesday night by defeating Golden State for the third time this season, this time at Chase Center. Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 38 points, fending off a late Warriors push and dropping Golden State to 11-11. The Warriors are preparing for at least three more games without injured guard Stephen Curry.
The Thunder’s blend of depth, energy and poise has produced lopsided wins throughout the opening quarter of the schedule. With Gilgeous-Alexander still only 27, Oklahoma City stands alone as the league’s most serious early challenger to the Warriors’ record.
Reaching 74 wins remains a distant target, but Green’s endorsement adds weight to a conversation that grows louder with each Thunder victory.
