Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan is seriously considering stepping down when the season ends, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints. Donovan, whose contract runs through the conclusion of the campaign, intends to make a final decision on April 12.

The University of North Carolina vacancy is believed to be the driving factor. Siegel reports that the Tar Heels initially targeted Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd, but Lloyd agreed to a new five-year deal in Tucson. With Lloyd off the market, Donovan has emerged as North Carolina’s preferred candidate.

McClung named G League MVP again

Windy City Bulls guard Mac McClung captured NBA G League MVP honors for the second time. The three-time NBA dunk contest champion averaged a league-best 31.8 points along with 7.9 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals while shooting .515 from the field, .381 from three and .781 at the line over 29 games (37.3 minutes per contest). Houston Rockets two-way guard Tristen Newton finished second in the voting, and Sacramento Kings swingman DaQuan Jeffries placed third.

Injury updates

Josh Giddey (hamstring) and Tre Jones (ankle) were both upgraded to probable for tonight’s matchup with the New York Knicks, K.C. Johnson of Chicago Sports Network reported on X. McClung (abdominal tightness) also holds a probable designation.

Bulls move past Ivey departure

The organization is working to shift focus after waiving guard Jaden Ivey earlier in the week. Brian Sandalow of the Chicago Sun-Times noted that the decision followed a series of controversial live streams and other issues.

The Bulls return to the court tonight against New York amid uncertainty over their coach’s future and with McClung newly crowned as the G League’s top performer.
