MILWAUKEE — Bucks head coach Doc Rivers told reporters Wednesday night that team doctors do not believe Giannis Antetokounmpo injured his Achilles tendon, pending official confirmation from the club.
The two-time MVP left Milwaukee’s win over the Detroit Pistons after just three minutes when he appeared to hurt his right leg. Antetokounmpo stayed on his feet, limped to the bench, and then headed to the locker room.
Rivers said the star forward underwent an MRI and disputed the idea that the play was non-contact. “If you watch, the bump drive is what threw him off balance,” the coach explained, noting that an opposing player landed on Antetokounmpo before he fell.
The Bucks have not yet released an official medical update or timeline for Antetokounmpo’s return.
