Two Western Conference standouts went down on Monday, December 1, stirring fresh injury concerns for their teams. Denver Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray exited a home matchup with the Dallas Mavericks because of a right ankle sprain, while Phoenix Suns shooting guard Devin Booker left the road game against the Los Angeles Lakers due to right groin soreness.

The Nuggets listed Murray as questionable to return when the injury occurred, but he sat out the entire fourth quarter. Denver carried a two-point lead into the final period and ultimately fell by 10 without its second-leading scorer. The club has not indicated whether the Canadian guard will miss additional games. If he is sidelined, minutes are expected to shift toward Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr.

Denver is already short-handed. Starters Aaron Gordon and Christian Braun are each sidelined for multiple weeks, and third-year wing Julian Strawther remains out with a back injury.

Booker, a four-time All-Star, was ruled out at halftime in Los Angeles after experiencing groin discomfort, according to Arizona Sports 98.7’s John Gambadoro. The Suns have not provided a timeline for further evaluation.

Both teams are expected to update the status of their injured guards as more information becomes available.
