New Orleans Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray has taken part in full practices on Wednesday and Thursday and is on track to play his first game of the 2025-26 season next week, interim head coach James Borrego said after Thursday’s workout.
“I’d say in the next week, he’s back on the floor playing NBA games, which is amazing,” Borrego told reporters.
The one-time All-Star has been out since rupturing his right Achilles tendon on January 31, 2025. The injury followed a fractured left hand sustained in the 2024-25 season opener, which sidelined him for 17 games. New Orleans acquired Murray from Atlanta during the 2024 offseason.
Last season, the 29-year-old appeared in 31 contests, averaging 17.5 points, 7.4 assists, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals over 32.6 minutes, while shooting .393 from the field, .299 from three-point range and .823 at the free-throw line.
Murray has been ruled out for Friday’s matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks, but Borrego expressed confidence in the impact the former All-Defensive Team guard can provide once he returns.
“I’m expecting a lot from him,” Borrego said. “He’s coming off a massive injury, but what I’ve seen has been encouraging. I look forward to watching him.”
