Guard Darius Garland has resumed full-contact work with the Cleveland Cavaliers, putting him on track to make his season debut in the first half of November, according to multiple reports.
Spencer Davies of ClutchPoints reported that the two-time All-Star has been taking part in scrimmages and all practice activities without limitations after offseason surgery on his left big toe.
Team officials are still proceeding cautiously, but several sources told Hoops Wire that an early-November return is viewed as realistic.
Earlier this week, the Cavaliers briefly assigned Garland to the G League’s Cleveland Charge. The move was described as procedural, giving the 25-year-old a chance to regain conditioning before rejoining the NBA roster.
Garland attempted to play through the toe injury during last postseason, but he was limited as Cleveland fell to the Indiana Pacers in the second round.
He is coming off one of his most productive campaigns, averaging 20.6 points and 6.7 assists while shooting a career-best 47.2 percent from the field across 75 games, also a personal high.
The Cavaliers (3-2) begin a stretch of four home games in five outings on Friday against the Toronto Raptors. Center Jarrett Allen could remain sidelined, leaving Cleveland potentially without two starters to open the homestand.
