Forward Danilo Gallinari said he is still considering an NBA return, noting he would accept a limited role as “insurance for a franchise” and expects to log only spot minutes.
The 37-year-old has not appeared in the league since the 2024 postseason but told reporters in a recent interview that he “always hopes” to spend one more year in the NBA. Gallinari emphasized that his value would be in experience and locker-room leadership rather than on-court production.
Gallinari also downplayed the likelihood of rejoining Olimpia Milano, the club where he began his professional career before the New York Knicks selected him sixth overall in the 2008 draft. “I’m not saying it’s impossible, but I consider it very, very unlikely,” he said, pointing out that a return would require mutual interest. He added that while European teams have contacted him over the years, Milan has never reached out.
The veteran forward split his most recent NBA season between Washington, Detroit, and Milwaukee, averaging 5.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in 12.9 minutes across 56 games. He logged three playoff appearances for the Bucks, contributing 3.7 points in 12.3 minutes per contest.
Gallinari spent the 2025 campaign in Puerto Rico, helping the Vaqueros capture a championship and earning Finals MVP honors after recording 24 points, six rebounds, and four assists in the clinching game. He has since joined the Italian national team, which he says will mark his final appearance in international play.
