WASHINGTON — Veteran guard D’Angelo Russell, acquired by the Washington Wizards in last week’s Anthony Davis trade, is not expected to report to the team, general manager Will Dawkins said Monday.

“We’ve been in contact with D’Angelo and his agents, but he won’t report as we try to figure out what’s best for him and us and our future,” Dawkins told Henry J. Brown of Sports Illustrated.

Although Dawkins did not outline a definitive plan, his comments indicate the Wizards are considering either waiving Russell or negotiating a buyout. The 30-year-old is earning $5.7 million this season and holds a player option worth nearly $6 million for the 2026-27 campaign.

The team did not provide a timeline for resolving Russell’s status.
