Who: Dallas Mavericks guard/forward Klay Thompson, guard Kyrie Irving, forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper, center JaVale McGee, forward P.J. Washington
What: Thompson called Irving the toughest opponent he has faced; Irving provided an injury update and was seen working out; Dallas added $3.2 million in annual dead money after stretching Prosper’s contract; Washington is reportedly close to an extension.
Thompson Lauds Irving’s Skill Set
During an appearance on the “Showtime With Michael Cooper” Lakers podcast, Klay Thompson said teammate Kyrie Irving is “the toughest guy I’ve ever guarded” and described the nine-time All-Star as having “no weaknesses.” Thompson recalled their NBA Finals battles when he played for Golden State, noting that he faced Irving in three of the Warriors’ four straight matchups with Cleveland.
Irving Offers Encouraging Injury Update
Irving, who tore the ACL in his left knee in early March, said last week that his recovery is “going great.” A video released Sunday by Overtime showed the 33-year-old practicing floaters and jump shots at the NBPA facility in New York. Reporter Grant Afseth observed that Irving appeared to move comfortably during the workout.
Prosper Waiver Adds to Dead Money
The Mavericks waived and stretched 2023 first-round pick Olivier-Maxence Prosper on Friday. The move leaves Dallas with a $3.2 million cap charge in each of the next three seasons. Approximately $1 million of that figure comes from Prosper’s stretched salary, while $2.2 million is still owed to former center JaVale McGee, who was released two years ago.
P.J. Washington Expected to Extend
Multiple outlets have reported that forward P.J. Washington is likely to sign a contract extension with Dallas. Details of the potential deal have not been disclosed.
