Stephen Curry wasted little time making an impact in his first game since a right quad injury kept him out for five contests. The two-time MVP poured in 39 points in 32 minutes on Friday night, hitting 14 of 28 shots, though Golden State fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“Started to feel normal again,” Curry said after logging six shot attempts and 10 points in his opening eight-minute stretch. He later sparked a fourth-quarter rally with 14 points, including three three-pointers, to erase a double-digit deficit before the Warriors ultimately came up short.

Curry remained in San Francisco during the club’s recent three-game trip to receive treatment and took part in a Wednesday scrimmage. Head coach Steve Kerr said the guard’s movement and rhythm looked “great” and that Curry reported feeling fine after his initial run.

Support for Kuminga

Curry addressed Jonathan Kuminga’s recent absence from the rotation—two straight DNPs—telling reporters the 21-year-old forward will likely get another opportunity soon. “We still have high hopes that he’ll impact our team this year,” Curry said, adding that both the player and the team share responsibility for keeping him engaged.

Backcourt logjam

Curry’s return gives Golden State nine guards on the roster. De’Anthony Melton made his season debut last Thursday, and former two-sport standout Pat Spencer has impressed in limited minutes. “We have a lot of guys now and it’s a great problem to have, but it’s not an easy problem to solve,” Kerr noted, citing minimal separation among the group as he weighs a set rotation.

Green set to rejoin team

Forward Draymond Green, sidelined the past three games for personal reasons, will meet the Warriors in Portland on Sunday. Kerr said the right mid-foot sprain Green aggravated last week has healed, and the decision on whether he plays rests with director of sports medicine and performance Rick Celebrini.
