Columnist Urges Warriors to Explore Kuminga Trade, Temporary Green Demotion

San Francisco, CA — With Golden State hovering below its usual standard, San Francisco Chronicle columnist Scott Ostler has floated two notable shake-ups: trading forward Jonathan Kuminga once he becomes eligible on January 15 and shifting veteran Draymond Green to a reserve role, at least briefly.
Ostler’s proposal, outlined in a recent column and echoed by league chatter, points to Kuminga’s unpredictable minutes as a continuing distraction. The 21-year-old started some games earlier this season, then was left out of the rotation entirely. After missing three contests, he returned Thursday but logged only nine minutes and hit one of five shots.
Rival executives, according to Ostler, still view Kuminga as a high-ceiling talent who might thrive in a different system, giving the Warriors a potential asset if they decide to deal him after the mid-January trade window opens.
Green’s production is the other concern. The four-time All-Star has seen his turnovers rise while his shooting efficiency has dipped. A stint off the bench, Ostler argues, could reduce early miscues and create additional floor spacing for Stephen Curry at tip-off.
The columnist stresses that neither move would have to be permanent, describing them as short-term adjustments aimed at jolting a roster that “may need more than a tweak” to regain momentum. Golden State, now 1-1 against Phoenix this week after Saturday’s victory, has yet to signal whether it will act on any of the suggestions.
